What is Sports Premium?

Sports Premium is funding allocated to schools from the Government. The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Allocations for the academic year are calculated using the number of pupils in years 1 to 6, as recorded in the January census of the previous year:

How can schools use the funding?

The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles

How will schools be held to account for the funding?

Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on PE and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding. Schools are accountable and have been required to publish, since April 2014, on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their PE and sport grant. They must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment

This year we will use the funding to:

Buy into sports coaching which will:

• involve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
• raise the profile of PE and sport across the school
• increase confidence, knowledge and skills of staff in teaching PE and Sport
• provide a broader experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils
• increase lunchtime club provision

The funding will provide a coach for a weekly lunchtime clubs each week.  We will continue to follow the advice of Government re COVID-19 and the impact this has on sport. Some of these activities will resume when COVID restrictions have been lifted. 

Our Objective:

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.

We would expect indicators of such improvement to include:

• the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
• the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
• increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
• broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

Impact Statement for the Sports Premium: 

1. As competence in PE teaching has improved, delivery through increased ideas and skills has become more skilful. 
2. General levels of fitness across school are increasing.
3. Level of engagement by pupils has increased as pace and skills learned in all lesson has developed.
4. Self-esteem of children has increased as the children have become more competent in sports and PE. This has been particularly noticeable with swimming lessons.
5. Parental knowledge of well-being and healthy lifestyles has increased as a result of good quality lessons and guidance distributed throughout the pandemic.

Girls site Swimming – End of academic year 

The majority of the cohort can swim at least 25 metres, being able to use a range of different strokes and performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. The girls can also swim on their back and are developing into confident swimmers. A couple of girls are still using a swimming aid.  

Boys swimming – End of academic year 

Twelve boys out of the cohort of 17 can swim at least 25 metres, being able to use a range of different strokes and performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. The 12 boys can also swim on their back and are developing into confident swimmers. Some children are still using a swimming aid.
